Cheung's Gold Traders Limited

Since 1981, Cheung's Gold Traders Limited (CGTL) has been a major player based in Hong Kong that is devoted to international precious metal trading operations. In 1983, CGTL became a member (member number 108) of The Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society (CGSE) and was granted a Gold Minting License (Note 1) and an AA License (Note 2) verifying the company as an operator for the global gold market. CGTL also has been an Accredited Refiner since 1997, and one of the SGE CGSE (Proprietary) International Members. In cooperation with the CGSE, Cheung's Gold Traders Ltd. offers favorable prices to investors, while expertly assisting in the management of their gold investments. 

(Note 1) A Gold Minting License that authorizes Accredited Refineries in Hong Kong. Among the 171 CGSE members, only 32 have been granted this special license.

(Note 2) An AA License grants the licensee the right to offer the most varieties of trading services, including Hong Kong 99 gold, Hong Kong 9999 gold, Hong Kong silver 1 bar, London gold and silver, and Renminbi Kilobar gold.

Dr. CHEUNG, Haywood

Co-Founder

Dr. Haywood Cheung has contributed in the precious metals industry for more than 40 years. Dr. Cheung was fostered in both western and eastern education systems, he obtained his Bachelor degree with Concordia University Montreal in Canada while in his younger days, and later in 2012 and 2016, he obtained his Executive Master degree in Business Administration and was awarded the “Honorary Fellow” by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) respectively, his doctoral dissertation“The Gold Market Under the Internationalization of RMB in Hong Kong” was compilated with his excellent insight into the global gold world, which was then published by a renowned UK publisher.

In addition to his business achievements, Dr. Cheung takes up various public duties, including, among others, The Chairman of Hong Kong Gold Exchange Limited (formerly known as The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society), the only gold and silver exchange recognized by HKSAR Government. Hong Kong Gold Exchange Limited is among the world’s top five gold exchanges. The honorary life chairman of Hong Kong Precious Metals Traders Association Limited.

During his tenure as President of CGSE, Dr. Cheung initiated and promoted the launch of transaction code, Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre, 9999-fine Gold Contract, Renminbi Kilobar Gold Contract (the first offshore Renminbi-denominated gold product) and Loco Silver 1 Contract, etc. These new initiatives have boosted the daily trading volume of CGSE to HK$ 100 billion in recent years. On September 19, 2014, Dr. Cheung on behalf of CGSE signed the cooperation agreement with Mr. Xu Luode, President of Shanghai Gold Exchange. In 2015 CGSE jointly launched “Shanghai-Hong Kong Gold Connect”. On November 03, 2017, Chief Executive Mrs. Carrie Lam witnessed the First Trade of “Shenzhen-Hong Kong Gold Connect”. Moving forward, Dr. Cheung will continue to implement its missions of promoting the commoditization of gold and RMB internationalisation through forging closer and further cooperation with the countries along “One Belt, One Road” zone and mutual accreditation of precious metal products.

Since 2002, Dr. Cheung has also served as the President of the New Territories General Chamber of Commerce (over 50 years of history) which comprises 16 district associations with more than 10,000 members. Under his leadership, the Chamber provides strategic advices to the HKSAR Government, promotes the legitimate operations and safeguards the legal rights of industrial and commercial sectors, as well as strengthens and facilitates the collaboration between the business communities of Hong Kong and mainland China with a view to achieving mutual prosperity. Mr. Cheung is also active in other areas of community service, serving as an Honorary Adviser to the Pok Oi Hospital and as a Director of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.

Mr. Stanley CHEUNG

Managing director of Cheung's Gold Traders Limited. Mr. Stanley Cheung has over 40 years' experience engaging in bullion trading, banking, finance, securities and futures brokering as well as forex dealing. During the 1990s he set up the first ever Chinese finance news and data satellite system which covered the whole of mainland China. He worked for Samuel Montagu & Company, once one of the world's top bullion trading company.

The Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society (CGSE) was established in 1910 initially as the 'Gold and Silver Exchange Company', and later officially registered in 1918 as a formal society with the name it uses today. Today, The Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society has 171 members, all under the governance of the Executive & Supervisory Committees comprised of 21 directive supervisors, with Mr. Haywood Cheung serving as President. Providing members with trading platforms and facilities, The Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society assists with gold, silver and other precious metals transactions, and is the only exchange of actuals in Hong Kong.
